How I use music to boost my mood
How I use music to transform my mood and energy levels during my school day

I am for sure not an expert in music, but I know which type of music makes me feel good! Do you also have some songs or types of music that make you feel energized when listening to them? This is the right music to choose for your morning commute to work. I love to listen to loud music in the car on my 30-minute drive to school every morning. It simply eases my mind, which usually already wants to think about my school day ahead. But for me, it is important to only focus on school when I’m at school and not already when I am in my car on the way to work. In the mornings, I love to listen to dance party songs that transform my mood immediately! I feel like I can wake up more easily too.

When I arrive at work, I actually continue listening to it in the classroom, as I always arrive at least 30 minutes before the class starts. I create a motivating and energizing atmosphere for myself but also for my students who sometimes arrive earlier in the classroom too. Whenever they hear me listening to dance music, they feel mutually motivated and more relaxed.

Which kind of music do you like most for your mornings as motivation?

Whenever I have to prepare my next lessons or grade exams, I also listen to music – it depends, of course, on how focused I have to be and how challenging the correction or lesson planning is. I try to listen to my body and feelings to know whether I can listen to dance music or more relaxing piano background music while working on my own. Calming background music helps me stay motivated but at the same time doesn’t distract me from the tasks I need to focus on.

In the evening, when I drive home, I am mostly in the mood for no music because I have had so much stimulation during my day (having people around me all the time can exhaust me, as it does for you too, I guess). I can’t listen to anything – it’s overwhelming, and I need peace and quiet.

You may now think, well, but what about podcasts? Don’t you listen to podcasts like everyone else? Find out my advice and recommendations on how to use podcasts and which podcasts I listen to in this post here (coming soon).
